Wisdom Teeth are our last Molars in the upper & lower jaw. They are the last to erupt & thus often lose out on space. In such circumstances they start erupting at an angle & exert pressure on adjacent teeth or other structures & cause discomfort which may range from just a mild ache to severe pain with minimal mouth opening.
The normal age for these teeth to erupt is 18-25 years.
When a
Wisdom Tooth is physically trapped between adjacent structures that prevent it from erupting completely, it is referred to as an 'Impacted Wisdom Molar'.
Today a sizeable portion of the population in the age group of 20 -35 years has Impacted Wisdom Teeth.
The procedure for treating such conditions involves surgically extracting the tooth involved & is generally a minor one.
