1. Why sinus-lift surgery done?
Poor oral function and detriment to self-esteem can debilitate millions of people who are partially or totally edentulous. Dentures, which are often used to treat this condition, may not completely restore function because of poor fit related to atrophy.

To be a candidate for the dental implant procedure, a patient must have sufficient bone in the maxillary and mandibular alveoli to support these posts. To increase the amount of bone in the maxilla, the sinus lift procedure, or subantral augmentation, has been developed. This procedure involves placing bone-graft material in the maxillary sinus to increase the height and width of the alveolus.

The bone used in a sinus lift may come from your own body (autogenous bone)
Synthetic materials, which can stimulate bone formation, also are used sometimes

2. Is there any follow-up after surgery?

After the procedure, you may have some swelling of the area, and You should not blow your nose or sneeze, because these activities can cause the bone-graft material to move, and can cause the stitches to loosen.

After a sinus lift, you need to wait several months for the bony material to harden and integrate with your jaw. Once this happens, the implants will be placed.

3. Is there any risk involved?
After the procedure, you may have some swelling of the area, and You should not blow your nose or sneeze, because these activities can cause the bone-graft material to move, and can cause the stitches to loosen.

There is no documented risk regarding the procedure but the attending risks after any surgical procedure such as infection or stitch opening should be taken care of.
